On a totally different note ...

So the newspaper I work for is planning stories for the upcoming 5-year anniversary of 9/11. So far, the thinking for these stories is pretty much what's to be expected.

  • How does Delaware's Islamic community feel now?
  • What about families of Delaware natives who died in the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Pennsylvania plane attacks?
  • How have our lives changed in the five years since because of security issues?
We'll do some of those but I'd like to do something different and I'd like to solicit your ideas. If the newspaper I work for was your paper, what would you want to read when it came to the 9/11 anniversary? Would you want to read anything at all? Would a big page with just a photo from that day on it be more powerful than any story we could write? Would you like to see a list of names? Would you like to see a timeline/graphic of the past five years and all the terrorist attacks since 9/11 in other parts of the world.

I really want to know. This is your opportunity to be a newspaper editor. To help you as you think about it, this is a profile of the newspaper at which I work as an editor. It includes a little bit of info about the state, etc.

Please leave comments with your ideas or send e-mails to brothersgentry@yahoo.com. There are some great minds reading this blog and I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

Personally I do not want to see those horrible pictures ,or be reminded of the visions of that day that are forever burned in my memory.

I would rather hear of the good that has followed.....like the progress of the new buildings.

How the families that lost loved ones are doing and hearing the stories of contributions, selfless acts, and emotional help these families received.

just my 2-cents.

Anything but the burning inferno images of that day. Terrorists love those images.

In their own words.... Let your readers give one or two paragraphs about what they remember about that day. What was the one thing that stayed in their head. For me, I can't shake the image of the jumpers from the towers.

I vividly recall that day and surely am not interested in seeing photos, video footage etc. What I would be more likely to read is stories of how people have moved on in their lives - taken this tragedy and made it into something positive.
