Way Back When-sday

It's a pigskin party today on Way Back When-sday. It's all part of tuning up for Sunday when Terrell Owens and the Dallas Cowboys come to town to get spanked by the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles gave T.O. the boot last year so his return to the City of Brotherly Love with the hated Cowboys is much anticipated.

Now about today's football-themed photos. At the top is a photo of Stephen and me showing off our Christmas-present helmets. Mine must have been adult-sized to fit on my big head. In the back left is Mama (I think she was pregnant with Russell), Mammy is standing and smiling at us and Uncle George is kicked back in the chair to the right.

At left is a picture of me sitting in the dirt wearing a football helmet as two older kids play football behind me. The photo was taken in March 1968 at our house in Grifton, N.C.

At right is a picture of me (left, with the big ball), our neighbor Michelle, and Stephen (with the little ball) standing outside our home.

And what guy born in the 60s or 70s doesn't remember Electric Football and the bzzzzzzzzing, vibrating sound it would make?

This was the EA Sports Madden football of our day. I remember stacking the defensive players on top of each other hoping they would fall over the line onto the ball carrier. In the photo above, Stephen (left), me and Pops are getting ready to play a game while we are at Mammy and Granddaddy's house during the Christmas holiday. Here's a look at the history of electric football.

My brothers were football phanatics! They had electric football. I, of course, was not allowed to play because I was too young and a girl!

They also told me I couldn't watch football on tv with them unless I said I was a Dallas fan. I agreed, but I got them back. I got my mom to tell them they had to let me watch the Larry Ferrari show on Sunday mornings or they couldn't watch the game! I actually loved that show!

If you don't know who Larry Ferrari is, check this out:
