He had potential ... he just never reached it

Do you ever get the feeling that reaching your full potential is an unattainable goal? I do.

No matter what I do as a boss, employee, husband, son, brother, uncle -- I always get this gnawing feeling I could have and should have done it better.

I know the feeling but all you can do is... do the best at whatever you are doing and that is all anyone can ask of you. I am sure you are doing just fine in all those areas...as a boss, employee, husband, son, brother and uncle. I am very proud of you. M

I am somewhat sorry I passed my perfectionist mindset on to you.
Although this is not a bad trait if you use it to motivate/drive you and you "stop to smell the roses along the way"! Someone special in both our lives helped me to see this during my midlife crisis period and it helped change me as a person - especially as a Husband/Father/Papa. Set goals with checkpoints along the way so you can reflect on what you have accomplished while striving for the ultimate. If you have a "driver" personality and are a perfectionist it is important to have someone with different traits help you reflect on your accomplishments. P

I suspect we have a great deal in common as to personality traits (otherwise why would we spend so much time making the "perfect blog"? :- )

And yes, not only do I get the feeling that I "could have done" or "could do" better, I am old enough to realize it is not just a feeling, it's just stone cold fact!

Don't sweat it - as James Taylor said: "Try not to try too hard -it's just a lovely ride"

Happy 4th guys!

Oh gosh Jeffrey...its just a game. What would life be without the carrot? The greatest part about it is that tomorrow is another day, the sun will rise and we all hopefully get another shot!
